Outstanding Graduate Student Nominees
The following students were nominated for Graduate Student of the Year for the College of
Education.
Jazmin Hernandez
Jazmin is a student in the Student Development & Leadership in Higher Education program
and will graduate this May. She is a 2011 ASU graduate with a degree in Communications.
Jazmin currently works as a graduate assistant in the Department of Curriculum & Instruc-
tion.
Heather Conner
Heather is a graduate student in the Curriculum & Instruction, Initial Teacher Certification
program. She successfully juggles the demands of children, family, and a full-time teaching
job. Her status as a graduate student has significant implications beyond her own education-
al goals, as she works in a school district and on a campus where attending college is not nec-
essarily the norm or within the mindset of the students.
Kimberly Hope Bearden
Hope is a non-traditional student in the Guidance and Counseling Program. She has taught
middle school for some 12 years and received several awards for her teaching excellence.
Hope has a heart for students. She understands the value of diversity and acknowledges the
merit and worth of all students in her school. In addition, she has worked in her community
as a volunteer for several organizations.

A San Angelo native, Jill Cummings is an interdiscipli-
nary studies major with teacher certification in early
childhood through grade 6. She was nominated by
the Department of Teacher Education. She earned
induction into the Kappa Delta Pi international educa-
tion honor society, for which she served as president,
and selection to
Who’s Who Among Students in
American Universities and Colleges
. She is a member
of Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, participated in in-
tramural sports, and tutored math through the STAAR
program. She volunteers for a variety of children’s
causes in the San Angelo community and plans to
pursue a teaching career at the elementary school
level.
