Members of theASUChapter of the national
Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
participated in several service events throughout
the fall and spring semesters. Two key events in
the fall were held at JimBass Ford andFort
Concho. During the JimBass FordFall Festival,
CECmembers set up two activity tables,
face-painting and sensory/activityballoons, for
the fall festival guests (children and adultswith
special needs). The pictures show that a fun
timewas hadby all participants.
InDecember, an eventwas held at Ft. Concho
calledSensorySanta and involved sponsorship
by several local businesses tomeet the needs of
childrenwith autism, children who have
difficultywith sensory and large group
activities. SensorySanta provides these
children the opportunity to sit quietly and
privatelywithSanta to have their picture taken,
then participate in a varietyof sensory activities
of their choice. ASUCECmembers escorted
and spent timewith these children at the
different activity stations.
The chapter’s spring eventwas heldMay3rd at
theASUPavilion in support of theAutism
Speaks national organization. This involved a
walkwith childrenwith autism and their parents,
in addition to set-up and clean-up.
