EPICenter in theNews
TheEPICenter had several award nominations this
semester. TiaAgan, FieldExperienceAdvisor,
MichelleMorrow, EPICenter Secretary, Christine
Pruitt, EducationCertificationSpecialist,Wendy
Storms, Director of Educator Support Services, and
MeaganWord, UndergraduateAdvisor, were all
nominated for theWonderfulWomen ofASU
Award.Mrs. Agan,Ms. Pruitt, andMrs.Wordwere
also nominated for the 2013President’sAward for
Excellence inCustomer Service.Mrs. Aganwas
nominated for the 2013President’sAward for
Commitment toExcellence.Ms. Stormswas
nominated for the 2013Chancellor’sColonel
RowenAward.
The staff of theEPICenter attended several
conferences and trainings this semester. They
attended theTexasAssociation of Teacher
Educators (TxATE)/TexasCoordinators for
TeacherCertificationTesting (TCTCT)
Conference, theTexasAssociation ofCertification
Officer (TACO)Conference, theTexas
Directors of FieldExperience (TDFE) Brownbag
Conference, andCAEP (Council for the
Accreditation of Educator Preparation)Conference.
The staff advised over 800 undergraduate and
graduate candidates. They also had 55 candidates
participate in theMandatoryStudent Teacher
Meeting this semester. This semester, theCenter
placed 224 candidates inFieldExperience
Placements, 72 candidates inPracticumPlacement,
and 30 candidate Internships. TheCenterwill have
64 candidates Student Teaching this
comingFall 2014Semester.
SomeTidbits of Information:
StartingFall 2014, all candidates entering
into theEPPmust have a 2.75GPA in
each of the following:Overall GPA,
TeachingFieldGPA andProfessional
EducationGPAmust all have aminimum
of 2.75.
All candidates taking theEC-6
Generalist TExES exammust pass all
four domains of the revised test, starting
inSpring2015. The domains are: 1)
ELAR 2)Mathematics 3) Social Studies
4) Science. There is also discussion about
adding a 5
th
domain.More information
will be available once that decision is
reached.
In addition, starting inSpring2015, it
will be required that the candidates taking
the 4-8Generalist TExES examwill have
to pass all four domains of the test. The
domains are: 1) ELAR 2)Mathematics 3)
Social Studies 4) Science. Secondary
certifications that previouslyhad an 8-12
grade rangewill now have a 7-12grade
range.
