Graduate Student Spotlight
Ms. SuzieDusek
SuzieDusek is a native ofGardenCity, Texas. As theDirector of EnrollmentManagement at Angelo
StateUniversity, Suzie’s priorities are faith, family, friends and, of course, ASU! She is awife and the
mother of two aswell as a full time staffmember ofASU and two-time graduate, earningher BBA in
1992 andherMBA in1996. Her enrollment in the Student Development&Leadershipprogramwas
prompted by a desire to continually improve her understandingof higher education and the desire to
contribute to the success ofAngeloState. Suzie’s ultimate goal in life is tomake a difference; a
difference in the lives of her children andher husband, a difference in the lives of her friends and family,
and a difference in the lives of otherswhose paths she crosses. Suzie is committed to usingher gifts and
talents for the service of others. The best way she has found to fulfill this goal is continual education and
learning, both formal and informal. To ensure she continues learning, she constantly challenges herself.
After graduation, Suzie plans topursue her doctorate degree inHigher EducationAdministration.

Geneva is a non-traditional student enrolled in theGuidance andCounselingMaster’s Program. She is
certified innumerous teaching areas and is currently employed in aBehavioral Adjustment Center. Prior
to this assignment, she taught in a disciplinary alternate education program and in a juvenile detention
center. Before beginningher teaching career, Genevawas employed in the hotelmanagement business,
where she receivednumerous service awards. Geneva states that her skills lie in the area of relationships.
She understands the value of diversity and acknowledges themerit andworthof all students in her school.
She constantly strives tomake sure each student inher classroom feels valued and successful. Being a
non-traditional student is sometimes challenging. Geneva hasmet this challenge. She hasmanaged to
juggle the demands of family, community, church, and a teaching career andmaintain a 4.0grade point
average. Additionally, she volunteers in the penal system and several communityorganizations. Geneva
notes, “Iwant to change lives byproviding students qualityoptions: emotionally, academically, and
intellectually. However, Imust first preparemyself. Themost effective lessons in life are gained through
activelyparticipating, not quietly spectating.”Geneva exemplifies the qualities of anoutstanding school
counselor and graduate student.
